Okay let’s talk patio doors. There’s a huge range of patio doors out on the marketplace – inexpensive, super expensive. At Scheel, we sell one patio door. The door itself is made by PH Tech. PH Tech is the company that manufactures the plastic, the frame, the PVC that we make our windows out of. PH Tech actually started life as a patio door company. Like other companies, PH Tech manufactures five or six different levels of quality patio doors. In our case, again, we only sell one – it’s called the S7800. People ask, why do you only sell one? Again, for couple of reasons. Number one, patio doors can become wonky. A lot of people have trouble with some [inaudible]. These doors are virtually bulletproof. I say that to you for a couple of reasons. This part of the door right here, all the sashes, the operating components. Steel reinforcement inside. Most people after a number of years, you know generic patio doors and new construction, they get wonky, they’re hard to operate, the screens stop operating, you can’t slide the panels. That won’t happen with this door. This is one of the reasons why we sell this door.
Other things that are important to you, the seal right here, where this door slides, where the screen slides on the door – this is raised. Again, usually pretty cheap, right? I’m a big fella, I can stand on this. No issues, whatsoever at all. Patio doors, again, are usually high-traffic areas. You want this to be durable, and bulletproof. There’s over a million of these patio doors in the market in North America. Again, we have one part time service technician. I can’t tell you when the last time we actually had a call on a patio door.
Now, do they make different versions of the door? For sure, they do. I’ll show you again a couple of reasons why we only sell this door. Most patio doors that you could buy in the marketplace today have wood inside here. They’re wrapped in PVC. If you look at this door, again, it’s 100% PVC. Look at the number of chambers, look at the number of walls. Again, the thicker the walls, the more number the chambers, the stronger, the durable, the more efficient the door is going to be.
As I mentioned earlier, stainless steel or steel reinforcement and all the operating components on the door. Security standpoint, Mortise multi-point locks. Very similar to a car lock. No cheap levers. Very, very hard door to gain entry to. Quite frankly have never seen anybody gain entry through the hardware system.
There’s a multitude of other options available to you. Colors available to you. You can have a foot bolt for security which is the old hockey stick that everybody sticks in there. You can have another bar that you… again, with this door, with the steel reinforcement the way it sits in the sash, the way that it operates, the wheels are raised nylon. You’re not going to be able to get this door out of the sash. Nobody’s going to be able to pull the panel out, break into your house. From an energy-efficient standpoint, you’re not going to find a more energy-efficient door anywhere. More importantly, you’re gonna have trouble free operation for years upon years upon years.
We’re in Arnprior. We’re on the Ottawa river. This door is available in a standard 5 foot, 6 foot, 9 foot, 12 foot – huge, huge, huge spanses. Again, over a million in the marketplace. Can’t remember the last time we had a service call. So, why do we only sell this door? Because it’s one, if not, the best patio door in the marketplace.
