Determining Which Windows to Replace

Replacing all of the windows at once in your home isn’t always practical, especially if budget is a concern. Often, simple fixes can extend the lifespan of a window, but some windows are simply beyond repair.

Deciding or prioritizing which windows need to be replaced requires some thought. Here are some insights which may assist you in making a decision on how to proceed.

Front Windows

Windows at the front and centre of your home have the largest impact on curb appeal. Though all windows affect insulation, heating and cooling costs as well as home value, the windows at the front of the residence affect the look of the home the most. To boost curb appeal, aesthetics, and resale value, you may want to prioritize replacing the windows on the front side of the house. Alternatively, you may have functionality or heat loss issues so you may want to prioritize replacing those units.

Energy Efficiency

Another factor to consider is whether there are any windows throughout the home that are cold, leaky, drafty or have lost their seal. All of these factors contribute to the amount of energy needed to keep your home comfortable both in the summer and winter. New windows will help to reduce both your heating and cooling costs.

North-Facing Windows

North-facing windows especially units that get little or no sunshine can be cold. Windows that are old may not be performing as they should.

South Facing Windows

South-facing windows that get a lot of sun can drive up your air-conditioning costs. Older units without argon or low e coatings may be costing you cooling dollars.

Noise

If you live in an area where there is a significant amount of noise you can reduce the sounds levels in bedrooms and other areas of the home by upgrading your windows. Scheel windows have superior sound abatement properties, which helps reduce noise levels in all areas of your home.
